Points of View

NASATheir point of view would be that it would be a utility for constructing the ISS (Canadarm), managing the ISS, and making it easier for astronauts to maintain and repair components of the ISS because it can do tasks that would be difficult for astronauts, and that it can help astronauts during spacewalks by supporting them as they move around.

Macdonald, Dettwiler and Associates: Their point of view would probably be that building the Canadarms would just be another job to get done, and another way to earn money. It wouldn’t be, if not, barely about contributing to space exploration and instead all, if not, mostly about the money to be gained from these projects.

Astronauts on the ISS: Their point of view would be that it would be a tool that can help them do their jobs easier and better. It could also be that the Canadarm is a relief as it can do jobs that astronauts would find difficult or not even possible if done by humans.

Canadian Government: They would see the Canadarms as some other contributions to their space program and to space exploration as a whole. I think this because when the Canadarm was created, despite the fact it was operated by the United States, it is Canadian, and the Canadarm in a way put Canada on the metaphorical space exploration map.

Factory Workers: They would see the Canadarms as part of their job, part of their time-using occupation that earns them money, puts food on the table and gives them something to do for a living. I think this because them working at the factory is a thing to do to make money and be able to buy food, and that’s probably the only reason they do it.

Environmentalists: They might think that it isn’t environmentally friendly because most space shuttles, if not, all (space shuttles transport things like supplies and equipment to the ISS) run on fossil fuels, which is bad for the environment because of carbon emissions, may it be from burning it for fuel or just refining it in the factory.
